Rochester’s Greatest Fat Tuesday Party Ever, presented by PAETEC, started as a party to break up the winter doldrums and raise money to support the March of Dimes Walk America. Walk America is the March of Dimes biggest fundraiser both locally and nationally. To generate momentum for this event, the revenue committee for the March of Dimes Walk America created the Fat Tuesday Party seven years ago. Successful even in year one, the event is now bigger and better than we ever dreamed it could be.

To make this Rochester’s Greatest Winter party, the best local bands are recruited each year to play at this Mardi Gras style event at the Water Street Music Hall, a venue with two large rooms and two stages, making for the maximum number of people attending and maximum number of bands. The room is decorated for Mardi Gras and beads are on sale for the attendees. Since its origin seven years ago, some 5,200 attendees have helped to raise a total of $140,000 to save babies!

The first of these parties met early expectations and raised just about $7,000 and drew about 500 people. Each year, we have expanded our committee and gained more corporate support. As a result the party has grown dramatically, and in 2008,will include eight bands, will draw a crowd of 1,000 people, and is expected to raise a record $35,000.

Tickets (as well as online Request) are available at all area Wegmans Video Depts, the March of Dimes office, and the Summit Federal Credit Union’s Greece Location, or through any of the Fat Tuesday Planning Committee for $10. Tickets will be available at the door for $15.
